Flying aboard Voyagers 1 and 2 are identical "golden" records, carrying the story of Earth far into deep space. This gold aluminum cover was designed to protect the gold-plated records from micrometeorite bombardment, but also serves a double purpose in providing the finder a key to playing the record.

Solar Activity
Solar activity increased to high levels. Region 3852 (S10W37, Eki/beta-gamma) lost a weak delta signature this period, but did produce an M1.9/1f at 15/0213 UTC, an M1.1 at 15/0227 UTC, and an M1.3/1n at 15/1006 UTC. Old Region 3848 (N15, L=116) produced an M1.7 at 15/1818 UTC with associated Type II (270 km/s) and Type IV radio sweeps. Region 3854 (S05W33, Eki/beta-gamma) produced an M2.1/Sn at 15/1833 UTC that had an associated Type II (883 km/s) radio sweep. New Region 3859 (S14E25, Dso/beta) emerged on the disk and was numbered during the period.
Solar Wind
Solar wind parameters were slightly enhanced due to CH HSS effects. Total field reached 10 nT while Bz remained variable between +/- 8 nT. Solar wind speeds remained in the ~380-450 km/s range. The phi angle was steady in a positive sector.
Energetic Particle
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at normal to moderate levels. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained near background levels. .Forecast... The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be at normal to moderate levels through 18 Oct. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to remain at background levels with a slight chance for a solar radiation storm event through 16 Oct as Regions 3848 and 3849 transit the western limb.
